Dear Family and Friends,
On Wednesday I leave for the Provo Missionary Training Center to begin a full-time
mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’ll admit January 30th seemed a
little less intimidating a few months ago, but I am so excited for the
opportunity to serve a mission at this time and in this capacity.
One of my favorite scriptures is in Alma 37:6-7. It says, “But behold I say unto you, that by
small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in
many instances doth confound the wise.
And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal
purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth
about the salvation of many souls.”
I think this scripture says so much about the gospel. I see Joseph Smith as a small
and simple man, but he was the tool by which Christ restored His church and
Priesthood. It is by small and simple
acts, such as studying the scriptures, praying daily, performing acts of
kindness, going to church, and partaking of the Sacrament, that we are blessed
with a mighty spirit.
I see the young 19-year-old boys and girls that serve
missions as small and simple tools of the Lord working for a grander purpose in
building the kingdom of God. What a
humbling feeling that is for me and how grateful I feel to be able to take part
in this great work.
